Instagram unveils ‘Bonuses’ feature to help users earn money via Reels

Instagram, an American photo and video sharing social networking service, is reportedly testing a new feature, Bonuses, to enable creators to earn money through Reels.

The new feature was 1st spotted through the screenshots shared by Alessandro Paluzzi, a popular tipster, on Twitter. As per the screenshots, the social networking service will pay bonuses to the creators who share new Reels on the platform. In addition, it will enable them to track the progress and see the amount they have earned. The screenshots also contain information about the possibility of introducing more bonuses and new earning opportunities for the creators.

Based on the screenshots, Instagram is likely to offer bonuses to only professional accounts and may not be made available to other personal accounts. However, the service has just started testing the new feature and has not made any official announcement on its availability yet. The company has been consistently testing new features on the platform, which may take months to release. Despite the commencement of its testing, it may also not become official to the public.

Over the past years, Instagram has been making heavy investments in Reels to unveil new features and has expanded visibility for short video products. Similar to other Facebook products, the service has started offering monetizing options in Reels as well. For example, in April 2021, Facebook announced plans to start showing ads in this TikTok clone in Australia, Germany, Brazil, and India.

For those uninitiated, Snapchat has launched a fund for the creators to earn money via its TikTok-like short video feature, Spotlight. The messaging app has cited that nearly 5,400 creators have earned above $130 million so far through the feature. Furthermore, it is planning to modify the program by letting them earn monthly rather than earning daily. Apart from this, Twitter also has kicked off its user monetization plans with the ‘Tip Jar’ feature, which provides users with a new source of revenue through their followers.
