The multinationalconglomerate Hyundai Motor Group has reportedly announced the unveiling of its new Continuously Variable Valve Duration technology. The CVVD technology will be featured in future Kia and Hyundai vehicles. The company has also unveiled the latest Smartstream G1.6 T-GDi engine which will make use of this latest innovation. According to Hyundai Motor Group, the CVVD technology results in a 12% decrease in emissions, 4% improvement in performance and 5% enhancement in fuel efficiency. Albert Biermann, Head of R&D Division and President, Hyundai Motor Group, reportedly stated that the advancement of the CVVD technology is a good illustration of the company is strengthening its powertrain technology. The company will continue its efforts as far as innovation is concerned, to bring out paradigm shifts and ensure the sustainability of its business model, he further added. Apparently, the latest Smartstream G1.6 T-GDi engine, a V4 gasoline turbo unit, makes peak torque of 180 hp and 265 Nm. Apart from being the first mill to use the new CVVD technology, the motor is also equipped with Low-Pressure Exhaust Gas Recirculation (LP EGR) for further enhancing fuel efficiency. The powertrain will also feature a low-pressure system to improve efficiency under high load circumstances.
