Boeing acquires integrated flight-planning app developer ForeFlight

The Boeing Company (Boeing), a renowned American aircraft manufacturing company, has reportedly announced the acquisition of a Houston-based flight-planning smartphone app maker, ForeFlight, LLC (ForeFlight) for an undisclosed amount. Reports cite, the deal caps-up a two-year partnership between the two enterprises where Boeing's subsidiary Jeppesen enabled the software firm's expansion into commercial aviation sector by providing it with aeronautical data & flight charts to publish on the smartphone app. According to a press release by Boeing, the teams from the two enterprises would now integrate their talents & expertise to bring in expanded & innovative digital solutions to all of the aviation industry segments. The acquisition aligns with the Boeing's existing growth strategy of supplementing organic investments through targeted & strategic investments that places the company in a lucrative spot for its long-term growth. The Vice President of Digital Solutions & Analytics at Boeing, Ken Sain stated that, moving forward, the company would be building upon the work done by the ForeFlight team. Sain further added that the company is looking forward to building upon ForeFlight's immense success across the business, personal & defense aviation and provide the next generation of integrated tools to customers today. The Chief Executive Officer of ForeFlight LLC, Tyson Weihs stated that the company possesses an expansive installed base in the field of general aviation and Boeing has that standing inside the commercial sector. Reportedly, ForeFlight's products as well as services, for the time being, would continue to be offered & marketed under the company's brand. According to reports, the software company with roughly 180 of its employees would continue to operate out of their existing locations and would be adding approximately 30 more individuals to its workforce in 2019.
